Nilstat general information
What is Nilstat used for?
Nilstat Capsules 500,000 units are used to treat Intestinal candidiasis, which is infection of the intestines by the yeast-like fungus Candida (sometimes known as the yeast syndrome). Candida inhabits the intestines in small amounts and along with bacteria make up the natural intestinal ”microflora”, which normally maintains a balance and does not cause any health problems. However, if the candida grows unchecked and increases in numbers sufficient to tip the healthy balance between yeast and bacteria, this can cause infection, which can spread to other parts of the body, including the mucosal surfaces of the mouth and vagina, commonly know as thrush. Increased numbers of Candida can trigger an immune response and also trigger allergies. Often there are no intestinal symptoms of candida infection, however, possible symptoms of intestinal candidiasis may include chronic fatigue or malaise, abdominal discomfort like bloating and cramps, alternating contstipation and diarrhoea, mood alterations, hormonal fluctuations and lowered resistance to infection. Prolonged use of antibiotics and impaired immune system, such as those imunocompromised by HIV infection increase risk of developing intestinal candidiasis infection. Nilstat Capsules 500,000 kills the Candida yeast that causes intestinal candidiasis infection relieving any symptoms and preventing spread of infection.
How does Nilstat work?
Nilstat Capsules 500,000 units contain nystatin, an antifungal that works by binding to ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell membrane that is not found in animal cells. This weakens the fungal cell membrane, causing a change in permeability and allowing the cell contents to leak out, which kills the fungus, preventing the infection from spreading and relieving symptoms caused by the infection.

Treating Intestinal candidiasis with Nilstat
Nilstat Capsules 500,000 units contains the antifungal nystatin that is used to treat Intestinal candidiasis, an intestinal fungal infection with the yeast-like fungus Candida. Normally Candida inhabits the intestines in small amounts and along with bacteria make up the natural intestinal ”microflora”, which normally maintains a balance and does not cause any health problems. However under certain condition like long-term use of antibiotics or impaired immune system Candida becomes overgrown and this can cause infection, which can spread to other parts of the body, including the mucosal surfaces of the mouth and vagina, commonly know as thrush. Increased numbers of Candida can trigger an immune response and also trigger allergies and may result in symptoms of fatigue and malaise as well as some abdominal symptoms. Nystatin in Nilstat Capsules 500,000 units works by weakening the fungal cell membrane, causing a change in permeability and allowing the cell contents to leak out, which kills the fungus, preventing the infection from spreading and relieving symptoms caused by the infection.
