How does Clavaseptin work?

Clavaseptin tablets 62.5mg contain a combination of two antibiotics are used to treat common infections in cats and dogs.  Amoxycillin in Clavaseptin tablets is as an antibiotic that is similar to penicillin and belongs to the beta-lactam group of antibiotics, which block the formation of the bacterial cell wall and this kills the bacteria.  However, amoxycillin can be inactivated by the bacterial enzyme beta-lactamase that makes certain bacteria resistant to amoxycillin.  Clavulanic acid in Clavaseptin tablets is an antibiotic structurally related to the penicillins that is able to inactivate a wide range of beta-lactamase enzymes commonly found in amoxycillin-resistant bacteria.  This dual action of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid in Clavaseptin tablets provides a broad-spectrum antibiotic and a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which extends the range of susceptible bacteria.  Clavaseptin tablets are effective against a wide range of susceptible bacteria, including Pasteurella, Streptococcus, Staphylococci and Escherichia coli.

What does Clavaseptin contain?
